Growing As a Worship Pastor

2020 was one of the best years of my life. How did that get your attention? How could the year of the Covid-19 Pandemic have possibly been a good year, let alone one of the best?

First, I began my ministry at Highland Park Baptist Church in Texakana, Texas in July.

It’s been a perfect fit. We love our new church family, and it’s a blessing to be back in our hometown!

Next, I became a grandpa for the first time on September 11, 2020. There is NOTHING that compares with this!

The reason for this blog post is that I set out on a new journey in 2020. I’d always had a desire to pursue a master’s degree but the timing wasn’t right. Financial needs, time, and limited technology each contributed to the delay… but God!

But God had a plan and showed me this incredible opportunity to pursue a Master of Arts in Worship degree from California Baptist University.

In the coming weeks, I will highlight what this program means to me. Most of the posts will cover my experience during the intensive residency in Riverside, California from July 6–13, 2021.

If you or somebody you know is a worship pastor, I commend this program to you. It’s affordable, practical, attainable, and allows a person to earn an advanced degree while serving in ministry. The best part is that that very ministry will directly benefit while the worship pastor advances through the courses!
